I am attempting to download and install the IDE for C/C++
I have made two attempts so far and both times I get
this cryptic message:
Version 1.7.0_65 of the JVM is not suitable for this product.
Version 1.8 or greater is required.
I am running an older model (2010 or so) Compaq Presario
using Windows 7
Can anyone tell me how to remedy this?
Thank you

You need to install a newer JRE. Eclipse no longer runs on 1.7. You need 1.8.

Go to the Oracle Java pages <http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/overview/index.html>, click the Download link at the bottom of the 'Java Platform, Standard Edition 8 Update 121 (Java SE 8u121)' part and pick the 32 ot 64 bit version, dependent on the bitness on your Windows.

Please use the Eclipse Installer to install Eclipse, to avoid all sorts of potential incompatibilities.
