The checkout after the initial clone of a repo containing 70 000 text files (without any history) is much longer on windows machine with Eclipse Neon/EGIT 4.4 than with GIT for windows.
On Physical Machine 64 bits Win 7 TortoiseGit : 2 min. EGIT : 11 min.

On our Virtual Desktop Infrastructure checkout hangs :

On VDI 64 bits Win 7 TortoiseGIt : 2 min. EGIT : 2 hours.

Most of the time is spent in methods such as java.io.WinNTFileSystem.getLastModifiedTime (50% of checkout elapsed time on Physical machine, over 90% on our VDI).

How far EGIT is suited for big repo on windows file system? How many files can it reasonably handle in the tree without performances problems on local actions (checkout, commit,..) ?

Here is a small repo "70kFilesRepo" that can help you reproduce the problem.

On my Physical Machine 64 bits Win 7 TortoiseGit : 40 s. EGIT : 4 min.
63 % elapsed time in java.io.WinNTFileSystem.getLastModifiedTime () on my physical machine.
