Matthias,
For Windows, the installer is packaged essentially as a self-extracting
executable. I.e., there is a small native executable that's composed
with a descriptor and a zip file such that executing it will unpackage
the zip file, checking that a suitable JRE is available to launch
associated (installer) product. If you look in the forum history,
you'll see others have asked how to decompose the *.exe into its
constituent parts.
