This method still exists but we do not see the text we are setting anywhere. Is this something that needs to be enabled explicitly using some CSS? Or is this text no longer shown despite the function still being present?

We've deleted the setStatusText method and also setStatus in the latest version of Scout (releases/6.0.x), so you should no longer use it. In our own applications we use the status of the table instead (for instance in a TablePage) or the new desktop notifications (which are also used as a replacement for the OS tray popups which are also no longer supported). See IDesktop#add/removeNotification(IDesktopNotification)
