Selecting file from Search panel overwrites previous file [message #1724419] Tue, 23 February 2016 14:50 Go to next message

When you select a file from Search it overwrites the previous selected file with the new selected file. Why doesn't it work the same as selecting a file from Project Explorer and display the file separately and preserve the file tab?

The reason it works that way is that when a user is "browsing" with search they typically are looking for a specific file and don't want all the other files on the way to the correct result to remain open. Therefore the Search view reuses editors.

If this default does not suit you (as it sometimes does not suit me!) then please change it from Window | Preferences | General | Search and change "Reuse editors to show matches".

As a convenience, the preference page can be accessed from the search view in less click by clicking the view's menu and choosing preferences.
