Missing C/C++ option after CDT plugin installed [message #1717495] Mon, 14 December 2015 06:24 Go to next message

Hey,

I have seen this question appear many times in this forum and others too. They are either unanswered or give solutions that did not work for me.

I have installed the CDT plugin in Eclipse Kepler using Help>> Install new Software
A 64bit MinGW, for my 64-bit Windows 8 system is installed and I have also updated the environment variables.
Java version is 1.7.0_25.

When I check the Help>>About Eclipse>>Installation Details, it shows that the CDT plugin is installed.

Yet, there is no C/C++ option in the Preferences and no option in the File>>New>>Project either.

I have used this eclipse version for android programming and wanted to work on Android NDK.
Any solution to this problem is appreciated.

So, what have you done that didn't work?
Can you open the C/C++ perspective?
Have you checked the error log?

I don't know the answer but most of the posts that I've seen suggest that it may be the java virtual machine and going to jdk 1.8 might be needed. Mine is
openjdk version "1.8.0_65"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_65-b17)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.65-b01, mixed mode)

Another suggested a clean workspace. You could try switching to a new workspace as a test. Don't let Eclipse migrate anything into it.

Is there a reason why you chose the Kepler version? Maybe a newer version would work. Maybe just a clean re-install.

No there is no option to open the C/C++ perspective at all.. I tried the clean workspace tip already. I had recently worked on kepler so i was just continuing to work with it for NDK..
But I'll try java 1.8. Thank you so much for your reply!
