Mars, oomph, and sharing eclipse configuration [message #1710858] Fri, 09 October 2015 15:31 Go to next message

I just tried to switch from Helios to Mars. The biggest issue I am having is with the .p2 directory and its locks. The documentation for sharing eclipse does not discuss this. I suspect it is obsolete.

Should I make the locks writable by every user?

I used the automatic bug reporting feature in eclipse, and it created a bug report, but it said something about adding a comment, but how to do that seems to be absent.

Here is the error (on the screen and in the automatic bug report):

java.lang.RuntimeException: Acquisition of lock file /usr/eclipse/.p2/pools.info.lock timed out

Should I file a separate bug report (if that is possible), and refer to this bug report that was generated?

I tried making the lock read/write, and eclipse would hang.

I downgraded to Luna, and I had to add a parameter to make it work in the shared scenario:
/usr/eclipse4.4/eclipse/eclipse -configuration /home/klugja/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_4.4.2/configuration/

If I did not specify a writable configuration area, eclipse would fail to save any configuration data (the installation directory not being writable). This has changed since Helios, and is not mentioned in the doc, which is dated 2005.

Since no one has commented on this, I submitted a bug reports:
