"install modeling components" menu item not available [message #1710453] Tue, 06 October 2015 15:47 Go to next message

Hello,

I just installed the 64-bit version of Eclipse Mars on Windows 7. I want to install Papyrus, but the menu item "install modeling components" doesn't appear in the Help menu or anywhere else.

Anyone know what might be going on?

Thanks,
Lily

What makes you think it should appear there?

Hi Nitin,
I've also installed Eclipse Mars on my MacBook (running Yosemite) and it appears on that install. More importantly, I need that to install Papyrus - which I've done on the MacBook install.

Lily,

In the worst case, you can use the Install New Software to install it.

Which Eclipse package did you download? Sounds like you got a different one on the Mac than you did for Windows.

Hi Eric,

You're right - I have 4.5.0 on the MacBook, and 4.5.1 on the PC. But I didn't see anything in the 4.5.1 "issues" list about not being able to install modeling components.

Would anyone know if that feature has been removed (and why) on the 4.5.1 version?

Thanks,
Lily

Not the version, I'm asking about which package. Eclipse is distributed in packages, each a collection of features/plugins that are commonly used together. They are what you see on the main Downloads page, such as Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers, Eclipse Modeling Tools, etc.* My guess is that you selected different packages for the two machines. One of them includes the feature you're talking about, the other does not.

* If you used the (new) Eclipse Installer, you also have the opportunity to select a package to install.

Hello Eric,

Thanks for the pointer. You were right about the different packages. What happened is that, using the new Eclipse Installer, I somehow ended up with two different version of Eclipse - one with the modeling tools, the other without. Anyhow, I compared the "installation details" of the Mac and the (right) PC versions and made them the same.

Thank you!
Lily
