Eclipse does not save settings [message #1700308]

I created a new project, selected "Project/Properties" and entered a different compiler (Oselas arm-gcc) and respective assembler as well as some post-built commands (i.e. scp binary to target and the like). Clicked "Apply" and F5 (Refresh).
Project was built an ran on target platform.
I closed eclipse an re-opened it shortly later and all settings I entered were gone. Could not find any file containing any string containing the name of the arm-gcc or so in the entire file system.
Operating Debian 8 and Eclipse 8.5.
What am I doing wrong??? Thanks for any hint!
