Hi all,

I'm interested to implement an EclipseIoT Wakaama-client on an embedded device to enable me to manage the device using the LightWeightM2M (LWM2M) standards by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA).

I know that the current version of OM2M supports CoAP, but I am unsure how the LWM2M standard fits in with SmartM2M standards i.e. How should the OM2M platform be incorporated with a LWM2M server (e.g. a Leshan server)? Is it suppose to be done using a IPU?

I hope these questions makes sense.

Andrew

Hello,

Like SmarM2M, the current version of OM2M do not provide native support for LWM2M.
So, the integration can be done using an IPU, e.g. A LWM2M server can be started in the NSCL.

Would you recommend to have the OMA LWM2M bootstrap server as a separate IPU ?
Or implement both servers as a single IPU ?

Hello Paul,

I think it is fine and more simple to implement both servers as a single IPU.
If you want to keep a kind of modularity then you can add the OMA LWM2M bootstrap server in a separate plugin, and define your own interface with the LWM2M server.
In the second case, the two LWM2M servers will play the role of a single IPU, even they are implemented in two separate plugins.

Hi Mahdi,

Thank for your answer. My understanding of the onem2m specs. is that OMA LWM2M is only used for device management - and that the other 3 interfaces within OMA LWM2M (bootstrap, client registration, information reporting) are not used.

Do you think onem2m will publish a binding for OMA LWM2M ?

Hello Paul,

This is a very relevant question.
Yes, oneM2M recently started a new technical specification for using LWM2M as a communication protocol. The document is called "TS-0014 LWM2M Interworking".
