Hi, I'm just finishing the SqueezeBox port from OH1. How are people testing the Player item-type? Is there a UI which supports this? I have only been using the paper ui so far.

I see player support was added a few weeks ago to github.com/dnobel/openhab2/tree/paper-ui/bundles/ui/org.openhab.ui.paperui/web , I'll build that and try it out.

Hi Dan,

You are right, Dennis added that recently in the Paper UI - we will hopefully soon build that with openHAB 2, so that we always have a recent version in there.
You might also be interested in this discussion https://github.com/openhab/openhab2/issues/66 - it shows that the ClassicUI also already supports it, when using the "default" widget (which is only taken on dynamic sitemap rendering though).

Best regards,
Kai

Thanks Kai, so is the player support in the classic ui for testing, or do you see this as going out as is with oh2/esh ? Also is this being rendered in the classic ui only, or is the REST service generating the sitemap dynamically ( so it should work on mobile too)?

As it is no new widget type, but simply a switch widget with buttons, the current solution should be compatible with all clients (I already tested it with HABDroid as well).
What is lacking though is the possibility to select this default widget when you manually define a sitemap. I would see two solutions: Either introduce a new keyword like "Default" that you can put as a widget type in the sitemap or introduce a dedicated Player widget type. Probably the latter will make sense.

Yep, i think a dedicated widget makes the most sense, i like the paper-ui impl, clean and simple. IOS and Android both have stock player icons/buttons so this should not be too bad to handle client side.

I've created https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=464147 for it.
