performance of Eclipse java Editor [message #32204] Thu, 22 April 2004 19:57 Go to next message

Hi folks,
this problem might not be specific to VE. I built a GUI using VE and the
source code is about 2600 lines long. When I try to manually type in the
java Editor, it becomes incredible slow. I went to
Window->preferences->Java->Editor and unchecked everything under appearance
tab and code assist tab. It helped somewhat, but still the delay is
unbearable. What's the reason behind this? How do I turn off the feature
that's causing this?

thanks!!

Can you try closing the project and re-opening it ?
For a clean start of Eclipse can you edit the file in the Java Editor,
then open the VE and close it, and then edit the file in the Java
Editor. The thing I'm keen to find out is whether somehow closing the
Visual Editor didn't clean up in which case it is still somehow
listening to the Java document and doing things. Look at the task
manager and the number of javaw programs (one is started for each
editor) and see whether this goes up by 1 when the VE is opened and down
again when it is closed.

Best regards,

Joe

Also try editing it with the java editor and not the ve editor. 2600
lines is pretty long. I have one like that and it too is slow in the
java editor. That would eliminate whether it is the java or the ve
editor that is problem.

I'm running into a similiar performance problem in VE. I heard that
there is a setting that is supposed to turn off synchronization
between the code and the graphical representation but can't find it.
Any heard of this?

There is but when you turn it back on again it will have to a reload to
handle all of the changes made.

It is the "pause" button the toolbar. It looks like the pause on tape
recorder, two vertical yellow bars.
