Eclipse Community ForumsStarting/Stopping Tomcat without overwrite

Hi,
My scenario is simple. I wish to use Eclipse and WTP 2.0 to start and stop
one single Tomcat 5.5 server. To this end I have created a server and
selected the option - "Use Tomcat installation ( takes control of Tomcat
installation. ) This works fine, I can stop and start Tomcat - that is all
I ever want to do!
However, if I have configured any Data Sources using Tomcat Administrator,
subsequent restarts of the server via Eclipse seem to over-write any
changes.
There is much written on this subject on the web and in newsgroups, but I
can't seem how to find out how to stop this over-writting from taking
place whilst still allowing we to stop and start the "external" Tomcat
installation.
Is this possible? If so, what changes do I have to make on the tab opened
up by double-clicking on the server? I have tried every permutation of
checkboxes but to no avail. If the solution is to change a path, I'd be
much obliged if you could help me by explicitly stating it. My Tomcat
installation can be found at C:\Tomcat5.5\
Very many thanks in advance.]]>2007-07-25T12:20:35-00:00Re: Starting/Stopping Tomcat without overwrite

I'm afraid this is the point of including "(takes control of Tomcat
installation)" in the label for that selection. It is the primary
disadvantage of using the installation for the Eclipse Tomcat server.
There is no workaround for this and the scope of changes to try to
implement the behavior you want would be somewhat major.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply Larry. I guess what I'm
looking for is just a Tomcat start and stop script, put somewhere nice and
neat in my Eclipse perspective!
Is it possible instead to use a "workspace" Tomcat, make changes to its
Data Sources etc, persist them in the "workspace" between resarts, and
then finally propogate those changes across to the real installation?
Many thanks again.]]>2007-07-26T08:38:04-00:00Re: Starting/Stopping Tomcat without overwrite

the development and "production" Tomcat servers. Whether they need to
be the same server, or if they are different servers, what really
matters with respect to using them. If you can describe in a little
more detail about what you want to accomplish, I'll see if I can think
of any suggestions.
Cheers,
Larry
