    Cyber-Resilience Act What Now (Logo)

    Eclipse Foundation Executive Report

I hope this message finds you well and you’re enjoying the summer months. Over the past few months, we’ve seen remarkable progress and collaboration within the Eclipse Foundation. I'd like to begin by expressing my gratitude to our dedicated staff and community members for their continuous efforts and enthusiasm. I’m thrilled to see activities such as SDV Community Days, JakartaOne Livestreams, and the significant planning for OCX all supporting our communities.

As an update for our members, we recently held our annual All-Hands internal event, which is an opportunity for us as a totally remote work organisation, to bring together our team to share experiences and ideas that will allow us as a staff to better serve you and our communities.

I look forward to seeing many of you this year at the Open Community Experience (OCX), scheduled to take place on 22-24 October in Mainz, Germany. I'm excited about our new conference format and hope the community finds the new focus on collocated events valuable. I'm particularly happy that EclipseCon remains a key event and look forward to seeing both our regular EclipseCon attendees and those from our broad “community of communities” there. For me personally, OCX is the highlight of the year as I get the chance to reconnect with each of you - please do seek me out to say hello.

I also want to draw attention to the new Open Regulatory Compliance (ORC) initiative. Sparked by the need to address the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act, this initiative is unique in that it is bringing together many other open source software foundations as well as our usual industry partners together with SMEs to establish common specifications for secure software development based on existing open source best practices. This initiative is vital to the software industry as a whole, and to our members in particular. I’m humbled by the trust shown by these organisations and commit to ensuring this is an open, respectful, and well-run process. I encourage all our members to engage with this initiative as the impact of this legislation and the resulting compliance requirements will be critical to virtually every member’s use of open source.

I encourage you to check our Annual Community Report if you haven’t already, as it reflects the progress and achievements of our community over the past year. I hope you find it a useful summary of the Foundation’s activities and operations. Please don’t hesitate to provide feedback.

I’m pleased to report that our membership remains strong. As of 31 May, we’ve 375 corporate members and 2,025 committers. Financially, we continue to execute on the 2024 financial plan. We’ve updated our forecast to reflect the investments we are making, including those in OCX and ORC. The Eclipse Foundation’s finances remain sound and are on target for 2024, with a budget that supports our continued significant growth and our strategic initiatives.

    Annual Community Report

The 2024 Annual Community Report is our annual publication illustrating our key activities and initiatives as an organisation over the past year. This year’s report celebrates our 20th anniversary, and highlights our significant achievements in digital sovereignty, security measures, community growth, and increased global collaboration in open source projects.

    2FA Now Mandatory

The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to confirm the successful implementation of ensuring all committers now use two-factor authentication (2FA) on both gitlab.eclipse.org and github.com. This initiative, aimed at bolstering the security of our source code repositories, mandates that all users with write access to an Eclipse Project repository (commonly known as committers) on GitHub and the Eclipse Foundation GitLab instance must use 2FA. Any committers requiring assistance as a result of this new policy may reach out to the Help Desk.

    OCX24 Newsletter

We look forward to welcoming you and your colleagues at OCX24 and its three collocated events: EclipseCon 2024, Open Community for Java, and Open Community for Automotive. The program is being finalised by our community led program committees and based on the fact we had the highest number of submissions ever for our annual event, we are certain the program will be valuable to all members.

Registration for OCX24 is now open, and we have introduced a special discounted price that is available through 20 July. This is a chance for members to register early at a significant savings - we encourage you to take advantage of it and invite people in your respective ecosystems to attend.

Additionally, we are excited to offer a range of sponsorship opportunities designed to help you showcase your brand to a diverse and engaged audience. Becoming a sponsor at OCX24 provides unparalleled visibility and access to key industry leaders and innovators. Don’t miss this chance to elevate your presence within the community.

General Assembly on 30 July 2024

Further to the General Assembly (GA) held in April, a second meeting of the GA of the Eclipse Foundation AISBL has been scheduled. The formal convening notice was sent to Member Representatives on 13 June 2024. Please reach out to secretary@eclipse-foundation.org if you did not receive it or wish to have it resent.

The primary agenda item is to enable the members to review and approve the audited financial statements and the auditor’s report for the 2023 fiscal year ending 31 December 2023.

The GA meeting will be held on Tuesday 30 July 2024 at 15:00 CEST/9:00 EDT via Zoom and at the Foundation’s office in Brussels. All members are welcome to attend.

Further, Member Representatives of Voting Members (i.e., Strategic and Contributing member organisations) will receive details, including the materials for the meeting and electronic ballots to vote in advance by the end of June.
