I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. After two years of restricted summer holidays due to the global pandemic, I know my summer break felt closer to “normal”, which was very welcome.
EclipseCon 2022 is coming back as an in-person event, returning once more to the Forum in Ludwigsburg, Germany, just outside Stuttgart. This will be our first chance since 2019 to meet in person as the “Eclipse Community”, and I’m excited to have the chance to see so many of you. EclipseCon is the best place to meet other members, collaborate together on existing projects, learn about other adjacent projects, and generally to immerse in what the Eclipse community is all about. I hope you will join us.
To update a few of the topics I mentioned in my June quarterly report, we continue to invest in our efforts related to the supply chain security of our open source projects. In late June, we announced that the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF) had committed $400,000 to support our efforts in this regard. We see this support as proof that our efforts are on the right track. You can also check out Mikael Barbero’s blog for our Head of Security’s updates on this initiative.
The Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) held its first Contribution Day in June, with great success. There is a second SDV Contribution Day scheduled for September 22, which I invite all those interested in the topic to join. I personally love this format of event, and hope that we can continue to leverage it with other initiatives going forward.
More generally, I want to remind all our members of the great collection of talks and other information available on our YouTube channel. I don’t make reference to it often enough, but I am always amazed by the breadth and depth of the content. Please encourage all of your engineering teams to leverage the content, and to put forward their content via any of our upcoming events.
I am pleased to report that our membership remains strong, and interest in both new and existing working groups continues to grow. As of August 31, 2022, we count 336 organizations as members as well as 1,805 Committers.
I am also pleased to report that our finances remain strong and on target. The 2022 budget planned for significant growth, and based on our exceeding this growth thus far this year, the Board approved a revised budget in June 2022, which was subsequently approved by the General Assembly in July.
