The past few months have been another busy period for the Eclipse Foundation, with notable actions and activities related to many of our projects and our internal operations.
Since the last quarterly update in September, the Membership At-Large approved the updates to the Bylaws and the Membership Agreement, both of which went into effect October 1, 2021. We have confirmed that all of the paperwork with the Belgian authorities was filed in August. But due to COVID-19’s impact on the Belgian government’s operations, we are still waiting to receive final authorization to begin operations of our new Belgian-based organization. We will let you know when we receive this approval.
I’d like to highlight the significant success our team has had hosting virtual events. In particular, the success of both EclipseCon 2020 in October and JakartaOne Livestream earlier this month. Both events had very significant world-wide participation and represent a new way for our members to engage with each other and the broader community. I was thrilled that we had over 1300 people from more than 120 different countries attend EclipseCon — that is a new milestone worth celebrating. I invite you to view the great technical talks from both these events, as well as from all our recent virtual events on our YouTube channel.
I’d also like to highlight a few sources of information on important activities at the Foundation. I had the chance to deliver a keynote at EclipseCon in October about many of the exciting happenings within our projects. Our leadership team outlined details of many of our major initiatives at our Annual Members Meeting in November, which you can also view on our YouTube channel.
With regards to membership, I am happy to report that as of today we have 334 members. Also, we are forecasting that we will end the year with a small surplus, with revenues of $6.7M against expenses of $6.6M.
2018 Actual 2019 Actual 2020 Budget 2020 Forecast
Revenue 6.0 5.7 6.9 6.7
Expenses 6.3 6.2 6.9 6.6
Net Income (0.3) (0.5) 0.0 0.1
Finally, as 2020 draws to a close, I wish to thank all our members for their contributions and support, especially with the very difficult challenges caused by the global pandemic and the upheaval felt by everyone and every organization. On behalf of our entire team at the Eclipse Foundation, we wish you good health and all the very best for 2021.
Thanks, and stay safe!
Mike
