Eclipse Bylaw Amendments - Voting Ends Soon!

As a reminder, a vote  to ratify the proposed Bylaw Amendments by the Membership At-Large is currently underway until December 12, 2019.

The Eclipse Board of Directors, as well as the Eclipse Management Organization, have approved these changes and the next step is approval by the full membership.

Ballots were delivered electronically to committer members and company representatives in November. Remember that Eclipse is unique in that committers who work for member companies or have completed the membership agreement are also members and have the privilege of voting.  If you haven’t voted yet , you still have time to help enable change and guide our direction forward.

Assuming it is ratified through this membership at-large vote, these revised Bylaws will come into effect on January 1, 2020.

To the many members who have already voted, your support is truly appreciated!

Questions and/or comments should be directed to license@eclipse.org.

GitLab at Eclipse

As a means for Eclipse Foundation to adopt GitLab as a new project hosting platform, we’ve deployed a Proof of Concept GitLab site to allow the IT team to explore the features of the GitLab platform. GitLab is a modern, full-stack development platform, which includes source code and repository management, code review, issues tracking, Wiki, and much more.

The use of GitLab will allow us to move away from our own hosted forge and will allow our projects to move to the next generation of tools beyond Bugzilla, MediaWiki, and cGit, while still having the Foundation serve as the host of this infrastructure, and thus not necessarily utilizing GitHub. Please note that this does not mean Bugzilla, MediaWiki, etc. are being removed, but rather that we are creating an alternative, additional platform for new and existing projects to utilize.

A production-ready GitLab, available initially for new Eclipse projects but then following that for all projects, is slated for early 2020.

Please follow Bugzilla #537913 for more information and to track progress on this initiative.

2020 Board Elections

The 2020 Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors elections are coming up soon. Nominations will open on Monday, January 6. We'll be sending out a reminder on that date. Voting will begin on February 12, 2020, and end on March 3, 2020.

The positions of Sustaining representatives Members, representing Solutions and Enterprise Members, and Committer representatives are a vitally important part of the Eclipse Foundation's governance. We highly encourage everyone to consider participating.

Committer Satisfaction Survey

We recently initiated a Committer Satisfaction Survey via the Committers mailing list, asking for committers to share their thoughts about the value of various services that the Eclipse Management Organization (EMO) provides. The survey seeks input on our governance, IT, project infrastructure, and intellectual property management from the committer perspective. The survey will remain open until January 17/2019.

We intend to use the data to identify committer priorities and to learn where and how we can improve these services.

We urge all committers to participate in the survey to give us the best possible insight.

If you are a committer, you should have already received an email with a link to the survey. If you haven’t, please reach out to emo@eclipse.org. And if you are a manager, please strongly encourage the committers on your staff to help us maximize this critical member benefit.
