Eclipse University Outreach Student Events

We are engaging directly with student organisations, primarily in Computer Science and Computer Engineering disciplines to organise "Meet the Eclipse Foundation" events.

These events are structured as a combination of formal presentation and informal networking, providing an excellent platform for representatives from the Eclipse Foundation to showcase Eclipse technology, and learn more about the real needs of students.

The content of the presentation varies by group. Typically, however, the presentation starts with how most students (and indeed most of the world) know Eclipse: as a Java IDE. A short demonstration of how Eclipse can be leveraged, in combination with JUnit, to facilitate top-down development is followed by a presentation that shows the broader landscape: Eclipse provides more than a Java IDE; Eclipse is host to a variety of projects and technologies, a vast community of developers, and and eco-system of corporations that build their business around Eclipse technology. Depending on interest, a second demonstration that shows how to develop plug-ins for Eclipse concludes the formal portion of the event.

Food and prizes are always part of the event which takes between one-and-a-half and two hours.
