Vision

I use Java ever since Version 1 for over 17 years, out of my 25 years total in IT and the Software industry. I am proud of having provided input to earlier versions of Java, e.g. i18n of Swing. An approach I promoted on NetObjecDays 2000 in Erfurt, Germany where Erich Gamma did the same with SWT. Providing a first hand experience of what would soon after become a key part of Eclipse. I was an early adopter of Eclipse and even helped more conservative businesses like Banking and Finance use it in a project where the most common commercial alternative at the time had failed to meet their goal. I provided input from project work to improve WTP on its way to graduate from Incubation. Based on i18n experience with the Java Platform I became one of the founding members of the Eclipse Babel Project. And German Language Champion. Via Co Spec Lead role of JSR-275, Units specification for Java which despite stopped by the JCP at the time became foundation of GeoAPI, used e.g. by LocationTech projects, I co-created the Units of Measurement API and lead Eclipse UOMo, the prime Open Source implementation of Unit-API. I am all but new to the Internet of Things, M2M, Sensors and Devices, as the first SmartHome and Greenhouse Automation project I did in a Distributed Sensor Web backed by JavaEE for multiple mobile devices and smartphones of their time (Nokia/Symbian, PalmOS and Windows CE all supported) went into production 12 years ago. Aside from Eclipse I am Committer at Apache Foundation and the only Individual Member of the JCP Executive Committee.
