Hi everyone, just installed Eclipse Classic 3.4 yesterday. Tried Help >
Software Updates > Available Software. I get:

No repository found at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/ganymede
Error reading update site http://download.eclipse.org/releases/ganymede.
Connection timed out: connect

Yet I can navigate to the page and view the contents of the page, like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
- <site
mirrorsURL=" http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/releases /ganymede/site.xml&format=xml&protocol=http"
pack200="true" digestURL="http://download.eclipse.org/releases/ganymede/">
<description url="http://www.eclipse.org/ganymede/">This Ganymede
Discovery Site contains a number of Eclipse based projects released
simultaneously, June 2008.</description>

etc,etc.

I googled

«No repository found at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/ganymede»

and got 7 useless hits.

Am I the lone soul who can`t get this to work?

Thanks in advance

Mario

I assume you mean you used a web browser to get that - if so, is it
configured to use a web proxy? If your browser is using a proxy then
you need to configure Eclipse to use one too (see the General/Network
Connections preference page).

If your proxy has a cache you may get some further problems with that
until release 3.4.2 which will include a fix for bug 249990:

249990: [transport] p2 fail to see new changes when behind proxy

Thanks Owen, I had forgotten about the proxy. Configured Eclipse as per
your instructions and Updates now work.

But I have another question. Where can I find a GUI builder for Java? I
didn't find it in the Ganymede repository.

Thanks again,

Mario

Eclipse.org hosts the VisualEditor project
(http://wiki.eclipse.org/VE/Update) but it is not really maintained any
more.
I use the commercial product, WindowBuilder Pro
(http://www.windowbuilderpro.com/)

Hope this helps,
Eric

Thanks Again, I've done some research. Seems like commercial products or
Netbeans is the choice for GUIs. It's kind of funny coming from a VS
background.

Cheers,

Mario

Really, it's funny? So you don't consider VS a commercial product?

Eclipse has its own HTTP proxy settings. Please check them out.

"HTTP proxy" settings are not standardized. Almost each program needs to
be told separately.
Yes, on Unix, some programs use an environment variable. Yes, on Windows
some programs read the proxy settings for IE from the registry.
No, both ways are not "standard" for _all_ programs.
