Reference code for RC4+ Engine API [message #168033] Wed, 07 June 2006 00:33 Go to next message

Originally posted by: schneeman.gmail.com

Is there a reference code snippet for running a report via the Report
Engine API (RC4)? All the way from creating the EngineConfig to running
the Task?

I was running using the 2.0.1 sample from the Eclipse website, but I
found some issues with it. I changed my code to look like a 2.1.0
snippet, but now I'm finding issues with running a report that makes a
reference to a report library (but not running "self-contained" reports).

It could very well be my use of the APIs. Could someone point me to a
canonical reference for RC4? I'll redo my code, rerun the report and
report back with a more detailed error if I still can't get it to work.

Thanks.

Here is the report runner class from the RC4 source

Any ideas?

I figured it out - I need to set the BIRT_HOME JVM property. This seem to be
because the reference code is calling the deprecated
config.setEngineContext() api.

I find that the following snippet allows me to not set the BIRT_HOME
property:

EngineConfig config = new EngineConfig();
IPlatformContext context = new PlatformFileContext();
//config.setEngineContext( context ); //deprecated.
config.setPlatformContext(context);
ReportEngine engine = new ReportEngine(config);
engine.changeLogLevel(Level.WARNING);

Thanks again.

Yeah, I was completely wrong here, please disregard. I find I still need to
set BIRT_HOME.
