Eclipse on Mac does not seem to produce a .log file. Is this a known bug?

I don't think so. It works for me.
But keep in mind that the Mac Finder doesn't show files and folders starting
with a '.'
So you'll have to use the Terminal or the application "PathFinder" to locate
and open your .log file in the .metadata folder.
