Generic schema based Xml file editor? [message #1072] Fri, 27 September 2002 03:33 Go to next message

Does xsd package provide or allow creating a generic editor for XML file
that is based on specific schema? Without creating a specific emf model for
a particular schema first. I looked through XSD classes but couldn't find
anything like that. Is it planned?

Thanks.

Vadim,

The XSD implementation is intended to let you work with and edit schema files
themselves. The application of those schemas for the purpose of editing
instance documents is beyond the scope of the XSD implementation. That being
said, in our 1.0.1 version (hopefully next week, but I said that last week) we
will be supporting a very preliminary implementation of XSD to Ecore
conversion. This would allow editors to be generated, but it sounds like that
won't really address your requirements. I.e., it won't be a generic
schema-driven editor. I think there's been some discussion about XML tools in
Eclipse, but I haven't been part of those discussions...
