How to compare files in eclipse C++ [message #141375] Fri, 03 March 2006 09:41 Go to next message

Hi,

I use eclipse for a few month now and I am quite happy to have the same
tool for both OS Windows and Linux.

But what I am still looking for: a simple merge or compare for files. I
know I could compare a given file in the project with its history and with
the cvs, but I cannot see a compare button in the Navigation menu to
compare/merge any given files. I guess I missed to install something, but
after searching for this for hours on the eclipse homepage, I am
completely lost now.

I have installed these components:
eclipse-SDK-3.1.2
org.eclipse.cdt-3.0.2

Thanks for your help, and thanks ALL for this great tool!

Regards
Jochen

mhh, ok I see, I have to select the two files in the navigation window and
than compare->each other is highlighted.

I cannot see any possibility to easily compare a project file with a non
project file (e.g. some backups on the disc), or do I need new glasses ;) ?

Jochen

PS. Wouldn't itbe a nice feature to compare the current file with any
other file on the disc, e.g. "Compare With->File..."

If you have version control (CVS of Subversion come to mind), you can do
stuff like Compare To -> Revision...; BASE; ...
