Hi

I would like to add a whole new view to the platform (eg Eclispe SDK or
some other distribution). Up to know all the documentation I have found
is about adding fragments to an application (RCP) which has an ID. How
do I add a view to the platform itself? What is the id for the platform?
I will be also using some previously created editor in GMF and my new
view in e4, how do I integrated both? There seems to be some kind of
compatiblity layer and an application xmi for legacy components?

"add a view to the platform" is a bit ambiguous. Is this a pure e4 RCP? Or a mixed approach with the compatibility layer. If e4 you can add it through the application editor or programmatically. If you use the compatibility layer than the technique should be the same as the 3.x way.

Then you should use the 3.x mechanisms. Try the RCP or better the plug-in development forum.

so... this means that it is not possible to use e4 mechanisms with the
SDK? If so... is it planned for the next release?

Yes it is planned. The limitations are described in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=376486
