Also, why are the PDT all-in-one packages gone from eclipse.org?
Your highest priority right now should be to clean up the mess you
created. The PDT project page is ridiculously outdated, sources are
still using CVS, there seems to be almost no communication, community
involvement does not seem to exist.
Other PHP IDE solution are leaving PDT in their dust...
PDT used to be cool, unfortunately I feel there's not enough going on
anymore which is said since I like Eclipse as a whole a lot.

The PDT section on eclipse.org has always been mess, ever since I can remember. It shouldn't be this difficult to have a very basic PDT section=, keep it simple and start small. |
But let me try and give some constructive rather than bash the project.
This is the PDT [homepage](http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project.php?id=tools.pdt).
What's wrong with it and what can be done to fix it?
- Home Page means the PDT home page http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project.php?id=tools.pdt
For a start, the big diagrams of stats "Overall Commit Activity", "Committer Activity", "Organization Commit Activity" are overkill and frankly who cares. Put them in the aside or at the bottom.
No introduction? I don't mean a 10 page essay. One or two meaningless paragraphs is fine, and people general expect some meaningless introduction, it seems out of place when we don't see one.
The "Tools Projects" & "Top Level Projects" links in the left aside are misleading and confusing. They assume too much. What's the difference between a "Top Level Project" & "Tools Project". Personally, I havn't a clue, and probably don't care either. Remove them, add a link "Other Projects" which should land on an "Other Projects" entry page with an introduction (the customary two paragraphs) and explaination of what the a tool project is, how plugins work, etc. the general architecture of eclipse and overview of what it is and how the tools fit in with it.
The source repository is now on the page. It should be further down the page, but above the statistics charts.
The [software repository](http://download.eclipse.org/tools/pdt/updates) is widly out of date. Open it, it has PDT SDK 1.0.3 -> 1.0.5.
The introduction part of the **Software Repository** also says things like "This project maintains a p2 repository of binary artifacts", who the hell know what that means. "Note that the repository link will not necessarily display anything meaningful in your browser" That should be a link to common eclipse page about software repositories.
The **Releases** section doesn't have a "Latest", i.e. the most current stable version. There's also only one link, 2.1.0, is that the latest? 3.0.0 and 3.1.0 say completed? Are you confused? I am. The little calendar icon link for "3.0.0 completed" is a 404. The calendar icon link for the 2.1.0 links to a page, a double wammy, the page **PDT Project Plan for 2.0 Release**, note the 2.0 not 2.1 and tells you it was last revised on 2008/11/27 23:00:06.
Delete all thise links. Better no links than those.
The reviews section is good and though I have my issues with the mailing lists, the Communications section is good.
I don't see the value in the Committer Tools in the left aside. At the very least it should just be one link and not a section and a link and should also probably just be called **IP Log**, so
The PDT Incubator under the "PDT Development Tools" on the left aside has 2 links on the next page. One to a review and in the top right aside there is a "What is incubation" link hiding under the egg image. Condense it. It doesn't need to be section and then a link. Probably doesn't need to be on this page either.
The links in the top left look good. Rename "Website" to "Home"
### Now, start from top down
1. Three sections are fine: Source Repositories, Reviews & Communications. Remove everything else from the middle column and add an introduction:
1. Introduction (TODO)
2 or 3. Communications
3 or 2. Source Respositories
2. Move the stat charts to the right aside below the contributors lists.
3. Remove the the "Tools Projects" & "Top Level Projects" from the left aside.
4. Rename "IP Log Generator" to "IP Log", remove the header "Committer Tools" and move the remaining link up under the "Downloads" link in the top left.
5. "PDT Incubator" and it's link can probably be moved to the wiki, however if it must stay: Rename "PDT Incubator" to "Incubation", remove the header "PDT Development Tools" and move the remaining link up under the "Downloads" (or what will now be the "IP Log" link, see 5) link in the top left.
The downloads page is a nightmare. There's too much for me go through.
Remove the "Release Notes link in the top right http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/news/relnotes.php?project=pdt&version=HEAD. It's useless.
Remove the The "Archives" link, that's useless too.
Where's the latest download.
Can't do it.
Delete **everything** from this page except for **PDT Developer Builds**. That section is fine.
"Getting the sources" in the right aside is redundant, see the pdt home page. It has links to CVS, and downbloads and wildly out of date update site links. If there is any links move them to the **Source Repositories** on the home page.
Remove the "Sort" and "By Date" link in the bottom right aside, it doesn't do anything.
Move any useful links in the left aside or the right aside to the top left aside on the homepage. e.g. FAQ.
In fact. Do away with this page alltogether. Move any aside links to the top left of the home page and move any of the content in the center column to a **Downloads** section on the home. It's not as though there's a lot. And that's one less page to maintain.
I'm afraid I can't do more. How do I get permission to make these changes myself?
