I would like to do the following in EGit:
$ git checkout -b newbranch
$ git push -u origin newbranch

This gives me a new local branch, pushes it to the upstream server and creates the right tracking reference. How do I do the same in EGit?

I would do it this way:
- Create local branch
- Push branch to remote
- Fetch branches from remote
- Delete local branch
- Create new local branch from remote branch

I know this way, but I hope you agree that this is not worth to be called "solution" for my question.
