Been beating on this for hours.

I get this error when I try to download ADT:

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: Android Development Tools 10.0.1.v201103111512-110841 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group

Before I ran eclipse, I had already followed these instructions:

http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html

I installed the JDK, SDK, then downloaded every single option in the SDK

not sure what else I can do.

At least it sounds like you're getting farther than I am.

I tried to follow the ADT installation instruction:

1.Start Eclipse, then select Help > Install New Software....

However, under the Eclipse Help menu there is no option for "Install New Software".

What am I doing wrong?

I would suggest following Lars Vogel's excellent tutorial at
http://www.vogella.de/articles/Android/article.html

I solved my problem - I was using the Ganymede release, and the Help menu entries did not match what was called out in the Android ADT installation instructions. The proper wording for Ganymede should be something like: go to Help-Software Updates-Available Software and proceed from there.

While that solved my initial problem, I ran into a different problem because my version of the Android SDK wanted at least Eclipse 3.5, however the version that I was using was 3.42.

I solved that one by installing Eclipse Classic Helios 3.6.1 and once I did that, ADT installation worked perfectly for me (Windows Vista 32-bit).

(Note to the OP: I think that the symptoms that I ran into may have been identical to what you described).

What version of Eclipse are you using? I'm pretty sure that ADT requires
at least Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo). The latest is 3.6 (Helios), which also
works for ADT.

In the installing adt-tutorial on developer.android.com they say: " If you have trouble acquiring the plugin, try using "http" in the Location URL, instead of "https" (https is preferred for security reasons)."

So when you add new repository in eclipse, make sure its http and not https.

I had the same prob. and this worked for me

Had this exact same problem. If you are using Windows 7, be sure to check your permissions on your android folder.

For win 7,right click on your eclipse icon and click on "run as administrator" then try again.

Why would you even place Eclipse in a part of the filesystem to which
you don't have native access?

Owen,

I'm sorry this isn't working for you. My suggestion would be that you
start carefully from zero. I have a few articles with step-by-steps in
them that you can follow at these links if you think it will help.

For Android development, feel free to use Helios.

Best of luck to you. I would suggest that, for any future trouble you'd
like to approach this forum with, you do not continue to hijack this
thread, but post a new question instead.
