I started to experiment with ECF, after installing I was able to use
chats via MSN, Google XMPP and Skype.

But some problems are still around.

- I don't have "Communications" in the context menus in Navigator or
Package Explorer
Is there any additional setup required?

- Trying to use the ecftcp://ecf.eclipse.org:3282/server I get
"connection refused?
Are there alternatives available?

- Setup of a local ECF server
I tried to setup an own ECF server following the wiki
http://wiki.eclipse.org/ECF_Servers
I have created a Equinox directory by installing the launcher and the
ECF SDK. After some adjustments to the start procedure I get Equinox
up. But the wiki mentions then to use "startApp" to launch the ECF
server which fails.

Is there some more documentation available?

I can only vaguely recall this context menu. What exactly are you
attempting to test / try out?

I think this has been down for some time.

For my personal testing purposes, I usually just run the
org.eclipse.ecf.server.generic.app.ServerApplication class located in
the org.eclipse.ecf.server.generic bundle. But I have the code in my
workspace so this is easy for me to do.

What do you exactly mean when you say "which fails"? Are there error
messages or something?

Hello Remy,
"startApp" is not accepted as command, just the help text is shown.

I have not started as Eclipse application, I wanted to run from the
Equinox console.

Following your hint I could start the ECF server in my workspace.
The registration works but I still can't share a project.

I only remember this menu item from a long time ago. Where are you
reading this? What do you hope to achieve by "sharing a project"?

I have followed the wiki entry assuming that this is necessary to get a
shared editor working.

Right. This is why I was interested in where you were reading this (so
it can be amended/updated/whatever accordingly). Please provide a link
to the wiki page in question.

You might want to try this link for getting shared editing to work.
