I can only vaguely recall this context menu. What exactly are you
attempting to test / try out?

I think this has been down for some time.
For my personal testing purposes, I usually just run the
org.eclipse.ecf.server.generic.app.ServerApplication class located in
the org.eclipse.ecf.server.generic bundle. But I have the code in my
workspace so this is easy for me to do.

What do you exactly mean when you say "which fails"? Are there error
messages or something?

I only remember this menu item from a long time ago. Where are you
reading this? What do you hope to achieve by "sharing a project"?

Right. This is why I was interested in where you were reading this (so
it can be amended/updated/whatever accordingly). Please provide a link
to the wiki page in question.
You might want to try this link for getting shared editing to work.
