Hello,
I currently have eclipse version 3.5.0 (build I20090611-1540) and today I was prompted that I could upgrade to version 3.5.1.M20090917-0800 via the available updates manager.

However, when I try and do the update, it fails with this nice error message:

I get the same problem here, with a fresh install of Eclipse RCP 3.5.0. I tried to install Subclipse, but I got the above errors instead after the bundles were downloaded from Tigris's site.

"Check for upgrades" reports that no upgrades could be found. However, there clearly are features from 3.5.1 in the Galileo repository (having a typical 'upgrade' icon). Manually selecting all packages that have this icon and trying to upgrade gives this:

I'm having the same error. It's easy to reproduce: download a fresh copy of Eclipse J2EE edition, install, launch check for updates, fail. As other posters have noted, it's preventing other plugins from installing.

The same here, after a fresh install of jee galileo package or even java galileo package, update does not work. Just a ton of 'No repository found containing: binary,org.eclipse...' error messages.
Is there a repository down?

I have been trying to install plugins and updates the entire day now. I am trying again as I write this. Still very sloooow and keeps breaking on errors (unable to find repository, file transport errors, etc.)

To install new plug-ins you can try unchecking the "Contact all update sites during install to find required software" option. it should help.

It's still not working for me.

I installed Eclipse Classic 3.5.1 (even tried with Eclipse IDE for Java Developers 3.5 SR1 and Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 3.5 SR1), then tried to install the Plug-in Development Environment or on a new clean installation tried to install the Eclipse SDK.

I always get errors in the style described above. Are there artifacts missing on some update sites?

Could anyone tell how long this will last?

I realize that there may be conscientious people working very hard on
this issue. I salute those people. But it please release some statement.

I already know of one case here at work where someone decided to look
into using Eclipse as an IDE (based on input from me). That person has
now "confirmed" what they had already heard from others:

Eclipse is too difficult to use.

http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/3.5/ seems to be completely gone..

I cannot upgrade certain packages in eclipse and I cannot install the m2eclipse plugin...

Unchecking "Contact all update sites during install" does not work because the plugin I am trying to install then complains about missing dependencies.

This will be resolved sometime this morning (Eastern time). For some
reason, a lot of the updates are coming from the home site
(download.eclipse.org) which has large, but limited capacity. I'm
uploading to Amazon AWS as fast as I can to offload most of our traffic.

It's just a challenge to upload stuff while we're being pounded on :)

Apologies for the inconvenience... This will all get better today.

What kind of problems? All our mirrors are OK, we're not redirecting
traffic and I'm getting about 250KB/sec from download.eclipse.org. can

That's interesting -- all five of our download servers are showing
hundreds of active connections, and you're the only one I'm seeing with
Connection refused errors. Can you go to http://whatismyip.org and tell
me (via email to webmaster@eclipse.org) what your IP is?

I think the issue here is that a lot of eclipse update sites show up as "parked sites" in the way that corporate firewalls analyze sites. This becomes apparent when you paste the URL used for the update side directly into the browser.
The workaround here (assuming that you are running eclipse on a laptop) would be to do eclipse plugin installations / updates at home or somewhere that is outside a corporate firewall
