Hi All,

Thought now would be a good time to post a quick update on what
we've been up to. [Apologies for not posting earlier; I've been
swamped with a number of both IMP-related and unrelated tasks
over the last few months.]

We've been wanting to release something on our eclipse.org
update site, but have been blocked for several months waiting
for approval on 2 IP Contribution Questionnaires (CQs) (one for
LPG, another for Polyglot). Apparently the eclipse.org IP team
has been swamped with several huge requests for the last several
months.

Well, we've finally gotten approval for the LPG CQ, and are (we
believe) about to get the Polyglot CQ approved as well.

So expect our eclipse.org update site to go live fairly soon.

For now, you can continue to get by with the update site on
our old SourceForge site.

We recently (early Oct?) posted an updated release there which
incorporates many bug fixes. The next release will include yet
more bug fixes, and we believe represents a fairly stable point
for the core functionality (both meta-tooling and runtime).

After this, we will continue work on a number of fronts:

- static analysis (the PDB is becoming more usable, and work
is in progress to make it more efficient and to support
persistence, for things like search indices)
- transformation and refactoring
- some reorganization of code relating to Java-implemented
languages (like our X10 - http://x10-lang.net), in part to
promote some language-specific code to the (language-
independent) IMP runtime
- better accommodation for language extension
- incorporation of DSLs to specify various IDE presentation
characteristics (e.g. syntax coloring, outlining)

to name a few.

Hope that gives you an idea of where we think we are and where
we think we ought to be. :-)

We'll be posting more details (and a long overdue project plan)
to the project pages on eclipse.org, soon.

Cheers,
-- Bob
