Gef and Draw2d for graph/tree visualization [message #224573]

Hi all!

We are a little enterprise that is going to develop an Eclipse RCP
application for irrigation network design and analisys. The application
(based on an innovative idea) will allow to reduce water consumption and
irrigation materials! We need to build and visualize huge graphs that
contain approximately 100000 nodes and edges. We are investigating about
the libraries that performs graph visualization and operations such as
graph exploring and traversing in an efficient manner. Are GEF and Draw2d
suitable for fast graph visualization and/or analisys (remember that our
graphs are enormous: about 100000 nodes and 100000 edges)? Our IT
Specialist suggests us to visualize only a portion of graph at time in
order to reduce time and memory consumption, is it possible to do that
using GEF and Draw2d. Moreover, we wonder if there is an eclipse plugin
that perform graph visualization and/or analisys that we could use
immediately.
We have to decide which libraries to choose within next weekend, are you
so kind to you give us a fast response?

There is a model-based graph visualization framework called Zest. It is based on
GEF, and uses the JFace standard way of building views to make graph views. It
is currently under heavy development, though. You can take a look at it at:
