Converting non-WTP projects to WTP [message #218583] Fri, 01 August 2008 17:08 Go to next message

Hello,

I am on Eclipse 3.4 using WTP 1.2

I have an older tapestry project in CVS that I'd like to run under WTP
using the Servers view. When I check it out of CVS, it is not recognized
as a web project and I can't find a switch that will make this project run
under WTP. My only workaround is to create a new web project and import
the .war built by the old project, but what I really want is just to
enable WTP for the old project.. any ideas?

Thanks!

If it is coming in as a Java Project, then on the Project menu, there
should be an option to Convert to Dynamic Web Project.

I recall something like that in earlier versions of eclipse, but there is
nothing like that in 3.4 w/ the latest WTP. If you right-click on the
project name in package-explorer, there is no option, nor is there an
option anywhere in the project properties settings. If you're working on
the WTP project, you might check this out, as I think it could be
considered an oversight on the designer's part.

(As far as I know, the only way to create a web project is when creating a
new project from scratch. You might also be able to create a project and
import the old project, but then you have complications with CVS.)

Thanks!

I think you are getting bit by the following bug:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=168538

There is a work around posted in that bug.

David,

Thanks, this pointed me in the right direction, but it's not a foolproof
workaround as WTP seemed unable to generate the needed files in the
settings directory (I noticed exceptions being thrown internally) in
order for the publish to work. Eventually, I copied and modified the
settings/org.eclipse.wst.common.component file from a different project
and it now seems to work fine.

Thanks again for your responses!
