[Project] Community driven translations... [message #21148] Thu, 07 July 2005 11:56 Go to next message

Hi everybody,

As it seems we currently depend on IBM dropping the translation packs
for Eclipse 3.1 from the sky, I would like to propose a community-driven
project to create appropriate translation packs.

Especially for many RCP apps - including mine - english user interfaces
can be fine, but often are not tolerated by the target group. Thus the
availability of translations is a showstopper for many RCP apps that
want to benefit from the enhancements of the 3.1 release. At least for
my case it is not desirable to wait for an unknown date somewhere in
fall when IBM possibly will contribute the packs.

The project could basically focus on translation packs for base RCP
plugins, but should be open for any plugin/language combination.
It could be hosted on sourceforge as well as on eclipse.org.

This is a great idea.

If you want to lead this as an Eclipse project, I suggest you start working
with Bjorn Freeman-Benson to get a project proposal together.
