I recently installed the "Eclipse XML Editors and Tools" from the Europa
distribution. Afterwards, I noticed that validation was turned on by
default, and a bunch of XML files in my workspace failed to pass. This
generated dozens of error markers on the files themselves and in the
problems view.
I turned off Validation, in hopes that the errors would go away, but
they did not. I can use a Filter to ignore the markers in the Problems
view, but there doesn't seem to be any way to remove the error markers
permanently. This is especially irritating because I can't quickly look
at all my Projects and determine which have (real) errors.
I uninstalled the plugins, but the markers remained.
Is there anything I can do, short of creating a new workspace?
Thanks
Ben

Did you try doing Project->Clean
So that it reruns the builders for the entire project, that should
remove any extraneous markers as well.

Yeah cleaning didn't help.

If you uninstalled the plug-ins then perhaps the validation builder was
uninstalled as well and there is no builder that recognizes the validation
markers as their on. When you use Window->Preferences do you still see the
validation preferences category? If yes, can you also check if the
validation builder is added to your project. It is called Validation.
To get rid of the markers you can reinstall the plug-ins, make sure the
validation builder is added to the project, make sure the XML validator is
disabled for build and run Project->Clean. Alternatively you can recreate
your projects.
A while back I opened this bug against the platform to allow a user to force
the removal of all stray markers:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=136337.
I hope this helps.

Finding the builder was the trick. Used "Add Validation Builder to
Project" for the affected projects, then ran a clean, and it took care
of the markers.
Many thanks.
Cheers
