What restrictions using the artworks puts upon my project? [message #16253] Thu, 03 March 2005 09:19 Go to next message

I want to use the icons from the Eclipse projects (notably - BIRT) in our
Eclipse-base product. I.e. I don't want to add a dependancy from the BIRT
plugins as we don't need the BIRT functionality, but some icons could be
used in our product. Does this put any restrictions on our project
licensing? Our project is closed-source commercial application.

One more question - can I base GPL-based product on the EPL-based libraries
(i.e. building GPLed Eclipse-based offer)?

Best regards,
Eugene

Pity you couldn't have been at the "Getting your Plug-in Legal" talk at
EclipseCon yesterday afternoon. Then all of your questions might have
been answered by an actual lawyer. (But who knows? There seems to be no
record of what was said.) Anyhow, you should be able to answer these
questions by looking at the faq and the many, many discussions of this
topic.

Not in any real sense. You have to provide the "source" for the icons.
But the icons must remain licensed under the EPL, and your license
should reflect that.

No.
