Hi,

Hope JDT is the right place to post this. I ran into an OOM exception while debugging something today. I was not doing anything complex in fact. So, just thought of posting a couple of stack traces as it persisted whole day. Just wanted to know if this is a known bug. Kindly let me know if I can file bug for the same on bugzilla if not.

You mention an Out Of Memory exception, yet your stack traces say NullPointerException.
What's the relation between them two?

In the stack traces I don't see any trace of JDT, only org.eclispe.debug, which is part of the platform project.
If you have steps for reproducing you should probably file a bug against Eclipse/Platform/Debug.

best,
Stephan

Hi Stephan,

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this information. There was a continuous logging of above exception and then Eclipse gradually turned to white screen and crashed. There was a pop up of Out of Memory exception too in the end. When I restarted, in the Log View all I could find was a list of hundreds of above exceptions mentioned as Trace 3 above followed by a couple of Trace 2 and ending with Trace 1.

I remember that, during debugging, I happened to see a file to which source was not attached. So, I tried to attach the source, that operation took a very long time and did not attach the source although source location was correct. Then Eclipse slowed down and it crashed. FYI: I start Eclipse from a Linux terminal. I have forgotten to take the stack trace that was printed on the terminal after I killed the hanged process of Eclipse.

I have already installed another version of Eclipse as each time I opened Eclipse it hanged frequently. But I would post more details this time if I run into crashing of Eclipse with white screen.

Thanks.

Hi,

Was able to reproduce the error as below even for a different version of Eclipse I installed. Furnishing the details for the sake of continuity of this thread.

Is there any way I can move this thread to Platform? If not I would post these details once again on the Platform category.

I work on a set of plugins which depend on some external jars. I have source code for these jars. Whenever I try to attach the source for a class file from these jars, Eclipse becomes slow and over time hangs. After a while I had run into OOM. This time although Eclipse could attach the Java Source file and show the code in the Editor, sooner it popped up the dialog for OOM.

Today this is the stack trace I got.
