The most basic newbie question possible [message #162037] Sat, 25 February 2006 18:53 Go to next message

I just installed Eclipse 3.1.2. I then downloaded wtp-M200602141429.zip
and wtp-sdk-M200602141429.zip, and unzipped them into the Eclipse directory.

Eclipse seems to run just fine. I was able to get a Tomcat server
defined and can get it to run.

The problem is, there's no 'Dynamic Web Project' showing up in Eclipse's
'New Project' window. The book that I bought starts with that window
option, so I can't even get started. I'm sure this is something very,
very dumb on my part, but I'm at a loss as to how to get started.
Appreciate a gentle boost to get going here.

PS: Sorry for the dual posting. It appeared that my e-mail address get
screwed up on the first attempt. Hope this works

Open the J2EE Perspective and then right-click "Dynamic Web Projects" and
go to New->Dynamic Web Project.

If you don't have this perspective or option, you might have installed the
plugins incorrectly.

I'm using 1.0.1 RC1 and it works great.

Unfortunately, the J2EE Perspective doesn't show up in the 'Window->Open
Perspective->Other' window. So, perhaps, as is suggested, I installed
the plugins incorrectly.

As I mentioned earlier, I just installed Eclipse 3.1.2. I then
downloaded wtp-M200602141429.zip and wtp-sdk-M200602141429.zip, and
unzipped them into the Eclipse directory.

I simply expanded the WTP and WTP-SDK zip files so their "features" and
"plugins" contents were added to the same directories under Eclipse.
How should it be done?

Sorry for these dumb questions, but I simply do not yet quite have a
mental picture of how Eclipse works, so I don't know how to figure this
out myself.

Seems like you didn't install the prerequisites. If you use the update
site, it'll download the dependancies automatically.

Otherwise, you'll need to grab the emf, gef, and jem packages to install.
