The approach going forward to add new Application Types to the Browser Modeler is the so-called Application Overlay, where you can add a specific HTML UI which at runtime always invokes the Camel Application Type. As you can easily connect to arbitrary Spring Beans in Camel this gives you all flexibility to implement Modeling and Runtime personality of an Application or reuse what Camel is offering already - possibly with some configuration.
Various Application Overlays are already part of Stardust (REST, Rules, Mail).
We are in the process of documenting this approach under
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Stardust/Enhancing_and_Embedding_Stardust/Browser_Modeler/Application_Overlay
