Hi,

I am new to BIRT and trying to generate a report. I tried to generate a report in XLS format, but my charts and graphs are not getting displayed in the Excel report. I tried searching the reason for it and looks like the Excel emitters provided by BIRT do not support charts and graphs. I have few queries :

1) Could someone please confirm that my understanding is correct .
2) Is this still a limitation even with the latest version of BIRT. What is the reason for this limitation (I ask this as the discussions that I found about this were pretty old dated ..around 2010,2011)
3) Is it possible to render the charts and graphs by using some Event Handlers written in java/javascript which will be trigerred on 'onRender' events.
4) What is the suggested way to handle such scenarios ? Is using other open source Excel emitters the suggested way? If yes then which of the Excel emitters available should be used.

I will be really thankful if someone can please help me find answers to these questions.

Thanks in advance

It is still an issue with the default emitter. It's because of the format that the XLS output is created. Your best option would be to use BIRT Designer Professional, as it has the best Excel emitter by far, with live Excel charts, functions, pivot tables, etc. You can download a trial at the link above. If you have no other option than to use open-source, the best route would be to download one of the free available plug-ins for the XLS ourput. The one I would recommend would be:

BIRT Exchange Marketplace - Spud Soft BIRT Excel Emitter

Thanks Michael, for a very prompt response. Is Spud Soft in a stable state now. I see that its still in beta version.

It's simply a plug-in for a past plug-in contest, but the author has been good about fixing problems if they're reported. There are other solutions, as well, like moving up to BDPro, as mentioned above, and I believe there is at least one pay-for emitter out there, for Eclipse BIRT.
