Hi All,

we are extensively using Eclipse for PHP development with PDT for many years.

However when I today installed the classic Eclipse from eclipse.org and tried to install some additional plugins it gives following message upon opening the Install Dialog:

An internal error occurred during: "Contacting Software Sites".
org/eclipse/ecf/core/identity/ID

Info:
- Ubuntu 12.10
- Language en, keyboard en_US
- Java /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/bin/java
- eclipse installation as per:
# unzip classic download 4.2.1 to ~/Downloads
# sudo mv ~/Downloads/eclipse /opt
# sudo ln -s /opt/eclipse/eclipse /usr/bin/eclipse
# sudo chmod 777 /usr/bin/eclipse
# sudo chmod 777 /opt/eclipse

This procedure worked fine on other machines installed with ubuntu 12.10 a few months ago.

I tried it also with a copy of the 4.2 download from a few months ago. same issue.

Please let me know what it could be or what info you need.
