date of the conference. It doesn't appear on the home page. I next tried
"conference program":
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2007/index.php?page=introduction/
This page has Monday, Tuesday, etc, but no dates. I then tried the "all
sessions" link:
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2007/index.php?page=sub/&id=al l
Again, I can see the conference is happening on weekdays, but no dates.
I then decided to systematically work my way down the top-left
navigation bar until I found it. The first two, "Registration" and
"Hotels": No dates. The next link, "Spread the News", I struck gold.
Some of the banner adds for EclipseCon friends have the date embedded in
them (March 5-8). Phew!
Short summary: could we put the date of the conference on the main page,
and maybe even on the conference program page?

You likely have an ad-blocker with the word "banner" in it, as the dates
are in a top-page graphic called:
<img border="0" src="image.php?gif=image/banner/" usemap="#bannermap"
alt= " "/>
It would be good practice to have such an important piece of information
in plain text. It would also be useful for the infinitely small
percentage of people who use a non-gui browser.
BTW, the answer is March 5th to 8th, 2007

Fascinating... You're right, I see the banner just fine in IE. However,
even if I craft a URL for that image directly, Firefox 1.5 won't render
that image for me:
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2007/image.php?gif=image/banner/
I crafted another URL for another image on that page, and it works fine:
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2007/image.php?gif=image/register_ left
So, I guess there's something about that image Firefox isn't liking. It
also seems to work fine on Firefox 2.0 on another machine I have.
Anyway, it definitely explains why there's such a complete absence of
dates elsewhere on the site. If it's a localized problem that others
aren't seeing, it's not a big deal.

I've opened https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=173219 so that
the EclipseCON team can investigate. That top banner is really important.
I also opened https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=173220 so
that the dates are displayed in plain text - perhaps on the home page.
Can you confirm (preferably in bug 173219) if you're using something
like AdBlock, and if so, if the banner appears after disabling AdBlock?
Thanks
