Hi All,

Running Fedora Linux r14 x64.

I've downloaded eclipse & JDK
eclipse-java-indigo-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz,
eclipse-java-ganymede-SR2-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz
jdk-7u5-linux-x64.rpm

THe JDK was installed and eclipse were extracted and stored in a local home folder.

I tried to the troubleshooting steps on the .ini file but couldn't determine if there was an issue or not. the ini file reads like this

-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
-framework
plugins/org.eclipse.osgi_3.4.3.R34x_v20081215-1030.jar
-vmargs
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5
-Xms40m
-Xmx256m
-XX:MaxPermSize=256m

I'm trying to start from a cmd line using this command

cd ~/eclipse; ./eclipse -vm /usr/bin/java java

in either indigo or ganymede, I see the splash screen but nothing else

Am I missing something?

You might wish to configure eclipse.ini optimally as suggested by
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse.ini

OK, but there isn't enough information on that site.

Like I implied on original post already been there, done that.
I'm using the "defaults" as supplied.

The link gives very detailed instructions on how to setup your eclipse.ini file. What else do you need?

... It gives "very detailed"...

Hardly, I'm no expert and haven't a clue what each parameter does nor what would be considered optimal.

The line "the exact contents will vary based on operating system and which Eclipse package" doesn't help. so if I have xxx installed on a yyy os then what? punt?

Lets say the file got corrupted, the wiki provides little guidance on what is required to rebuild it from scratch or recommended values.

But this point is moot, I emailed the instructor of the class I'm taking and in return sent a few (config?) files and answered a couple of questions on what was installed and where. Later his edits fixed the problem.

So the wiki is fine for those who are familiar with the product but not so much to the first time user.
