API to programmatically modify product configuration [message #872791]

Hi, while working on a wizard to convert projects from plug-in based to feature based (bug https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=341594 )I feel that I need some documentation on how to manipulate the product configurations programmatically (change the features, modify the running configuration etc). Is there some reference documentation where I can look at?
