I just installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview a week ago, and now tried to get Eclipse JDT working, without luck.

The x86 version reported problems with jvm.dll (I previously had problems with Java not being recognized at all, added it to PATH to fix it), then a generic Java error code 1 when tried to start it up using eclipse.exe

Tried both the JDT and the generic release, both reported same error message:
index.php/fa/7497/0/

Would be there any way to force Eclipse to run? I would need it ASAP, and don't really want to re-install Win7 just right now (although has to do if it's the only solution).

I don't know what could be happening. However, you could try running eclipsec.exe -console. You may get some clue.

With eclipsec, it works, but no plugin can be installed. After creating everything (workspace, etc), eclipse.exe still won't work.

With the console parameter, no further information was displayed.
