Hello Everybody,

I am using Eclipse 3.2.1, TPTP-4.3.0 and AGR 4.3.0.I am trying to run my
AGR Testcases in standard mode by giving an alternate startup.jar (which
points to my product). But when I do so, my product window gets launched
but the launch gets stuck at 60 % and I get the error “IWAT4039E The Test
Execution Harness reported the following
problems:org.eclipse.hyades.internal.execution.local.control .InactiveProcessException”.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
-Sanchali

Hi Sanchali,
Are you using the Agent Controller or Integrated Agent Controller? What
platform are you using?

I would recommend using the 4.3.1 release since it contains more fixes
than the 4.3.0 release.

Hi Sanchali.

it may not be relevant, but I have had exactly the same problem when
launching the test suite with JVM arguments that I had entered in the
Overview tab of the testsuite editor and that were not needed.

Kind regards,
B.

Hi Paul,

I am using WindowsXP and I am using Agent Controller.As suggested by you I
tried using the Integrated Agent Controller (I used the New technology
Agent Controller hope thats what you were refering to) but I get the same
error.Even I tried using the same scenario with the Eclipse 3.3 M6 and
TPTP 4.4.0. Still I am getting the same error only difference is that now
the launch gets stuck at 36 %.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Sanchali,
The Integrated Agent Controller is an in-process Agent Controller (with
Eclipse) for local profiling and test execution that eliminates the need to
install/configure an Agent Controller:

http://help.eclipse.org/help32/topic/org.eclipse.tptp.platfo rm.agentcontroller.doc.user/concepts/ac/ciacintro.html

The new technology Agent Controller is the second generation Agent
Controller.

Can you launch a simple 'hello world' AGR test suite using your
install/config?

In the meantime, I will have Liz (componet lead) investigate.

Hi Sanchali,

I am wondering if this problem could be due to using different JRE versions
in the two workbenches. Could you specify your JRE /EMF version information
(both workbench and agent controller JRE version) to rule this out? Also,
please list the JRE which the execution workbench (for your product) uses by
default.

Sincerely,

Liz Dancy

Hello Liz,

The JRE versions for both the workbench I am using is 1.5.0.

What I tried now was to add the dependencies of tptp.test.auto to my
product. Now when I attach this products startup.jar to my testsuit and
it's running properly.

Thanks for everything.

Hello Sanchali,

could you please tell how you added the dependencies of tptp.test.auto
to your product?
I am still struggling with the same problem.

Thanks,
Matthias

Hello Matthias,

Sorry for the late reply.
I made a product of my plugins using Product Configuration.In addition to
my dependencies I explicitly added the following plugins
1)org.eclipse.tptp.test.auto
2)org.eclipse.tptp.test.auto.gui
After adding these two I clicked on "Add Required Plugins" button. This
ensured the dependencies of above two plugins to my product.
Please let me know if this works.

Liz hi,

I have the same problem.
Upgraded my Eclipse SDK to version 3.2.2 (from 3.2.0), installed the new
and shinny TPTP 4.3.1 with the last AGR release and also installed the
last RAC.

The "standard mode" does not work not with the IAC and not with the RAC
-- the following error appears in both modes:

org.eclipse.hyades.internal.execution.local.control.Inactive ProcessException
at
org.eclipse.hyades.execution.harness.TestExecutionHarnessExe cutorStub.launch(TestExecutionHarnessExecutorStub.java:422)
at
org.eclipse.hyades.execution.harness.TestExecutionHarness.la unchTestExecution(TestExecutionHarness.java:2085)
at
org.eclipse.hyades.execution.harness.TestExecutionHarness.ac cess$3(TestExecutionHarness.java:1817)
at
org.eclipse.hyades.execution.harness.TestExecutionHarness$2. run(TestExecutionHarness.java:741)
at org.eclipse.core.internal.jobs.Worker.run(Worker.java:58)

I am using jdk1.5.0_08 with for both run-time instances.
Adrian.

I am trying to apply your solution on a much simpler scenario...
Created TestContainer project with one test in it:
<macro version="0.1" >
<shell descriptive="Resource - AutomatedGUISuite -..."
id="org.eclipse.ui.internal.WorkbenchWindow" return-code="-1" >
<command descriptive="About Eclipse SDK" type="select"
contextId="menus"
widgetId=" org.eclipse.jface.action.ActionContributionItem#{{&H elp-&About
Eclipse
SDK}}-{{0.8}}{{9|18}}-{{0.6}}{{false}}-{{0.1}}{{19}}-{{0.1}} {{separator}}-{{0.2}}{{last}}-{{0.2}} "
>
<parent widgetId="help"/>
</command>
<shell descriptive="About Eclipse SDK"
id="org.eclipse.ui.internal.dialogs.AboutDialog" return-code="0" >
<command descriptive="OK" type="select" contextId="shell"
widgetId="org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Button#{{0}}-{{1.0}}" />
</shell>
</shell>
</macro>

It works only in the "quick mode"; in the "standard mode" it always
throws that scriptic InactiveProcess...

How can I apply your solution to this one?
Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your patience. I downloaded and installed the 4.3.1 driver this
morning from our download page. I installed the TPTP runtime.zip (all
plugins), and the EMF and Eclipse SDKs from the links available there.

I tried launching a simple AGR test case with both an IBM JRE 1.5 and a SUN
JRE 1.5. These passed in standard mode.

I also tried the TPTP 4.4 AGR in this configuration and this also worked.

The only differences I can think of would be if you installed 4.3.1 via the
all-in-one package instead.

Could you let me know if this is the case. Also, could you test your local
connection to the Agent Controller by going to Windows > Preferences >
Profiling and Logging > Hosts and click on localhost > test connection. If
you get connection success then you have a connection with the agent
controller.

You may also wish to check for background java processes and stop any that
have been idle.

I hope this helps and please let me know if it doesn't so we can explore
more options.

Sincerely,

Liz Dancy

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--------------060706020004030705060803
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Attached is a plugin that may help in diagnosing
InactiveProcessException issues.

1) Drop this plugin into your eclipse/plugins directory and start eclipse.
2) Go to the Window -> Preferences -> Test -> Launch Doctor page.
3) Enable the Log Launch Details option and specify a directory to write
the log file (/tmp, c:\temp, whatever is available)
4) Run the test that is failing
5) After it fails open the launch_doctor.log file in the directory you
specified. (It reads much easier if you disable word wrap in your text
editor.)

For InactiveProcessException issues, the two things to note are the
classpath and the VM args. [It is expected that the classpath will be
multiline -- this is not an error.] From this information, you can
construct a commandline invocation of java using the same classpath and
vm args and see if an error is reported. Note that in order to do this,
you'll need to modify the classpath by making it a single line (adding
the appropriate separator character), and also by adding quotes around
each classpath entry that contains a space (you can't just quote the
whole classpath). When you've done this, you can issue the following
from the command line:

java -cp {the classpath you constructed from the log file} {the vm args
from the log file}

Note that the test will not run, because the test runner will try
unsuccessfully to connect and handshake with the workbench that launched
it. However, it should launch the process successfully, and in the case
of AGR tests, you should see eclipse launch (it should hang on the
welcome screen.) Since you're getting an InactiveProcessException, my
guess is that you'll get an error message from java instead. Please try
this and let us know what you find.

Thanks,
--Joe
