I have installed Indigo on my Linux 10.04 by following 'Method 2' in crlog.info/2011/06/30/upgrading-eclipse-on-ubuntu-from-3-5-to-3-7-indigo-works-for-other-versions-too/. Eclipse seems to be running Ok.
The version reports by 'About Eclipse' reports Version: 3.7.1
Build id: M20110909-1335
I have run the Cheat Sheet for HelloWorld and it works.
I also have installed Groovy.
I am trying to follow the 'Create a Hello World SWT application'. At the step 'Create a Java Project' I am unable to see a 'New Java Project'. I only see a 'New Groovy Project', 'New Java Package', 'New Java Class', but not 'New Java Project'.

Is there a test of the environment to make sure everything is Ok?

Click on New->Other ... and you should be able to see Java Project in the dialog box that comes up.

Thank you, that works - However, the IDE's button is not present. Is that a bug?

I don't think so. You installed Groovy and are probably in 'Groovy
Perspective'.

In any case, you can use Window > Customize Perspective to add/remove
stuff from the toolbar.

Go to Window > Open Perspective -> Other -> Java/Java EE

Thanks, it is probably because I installed Groovy that the Java Perspective got messed up. I am definitely in the Java perspective.
WHen I open the Customize Perspective, the title says 'Customize Perspective - Java'.
Here I notice under Java Element Creation that 'New Java Project' is not checked. Once I set it to checked, the button for 'New Java Project' appears.
That gets the IDE to match the Cheat Sheet descritpions
Again Thanks for the help
