Hi All

I have a java application that is being distributed and deployed using Java Web Start. This application is going to run as a very simple stand alone application in a Desktop PC and it doesn't have Servlets even though is being packaged as a WAR including the Jnlp file.

I would like to use BIRT Reports 3.7 because I always use Eclipse for Development and I think BIRT reports is one of the best reporting tools out there.

So far my report is generated correctly when I run the application from eclipse but once the application is packaged as a WAR the Birt report engine fails to start.

I saw a comment posted in June 2008 with the same problem "msg_362968" but I tryed all proposed solutions and still is not working.

Is there anybody that knows if it's actually possible to pack all libs and deploy the full BIRT Report engine in a Java Web Start Application that is going to run as a stand alone app y a Desktop PC?

My project also use maven and I would like to know if BIRT 3.7 artifacts are going to be added to the maven central repository soon?

Thank you in advance,
Alex

I have not tried JWS with the new BIRT runtime. I imagine if you are
using the RE API and not the viewer it should work because the 3.7
runtime is pojo based. John Ward got it working with an older version
of BIRT. Have you read his post?

BTW we are trying to get the BIRT artifacts in maven and this will
hopefully be done soon.

Thanks for that Jason

I found that article just after I posted this questions, even though it is not exactly what I was looking for because my app is a very simple Pojo based app, meaning that it is not a plugin project, I decided to give it a try to see if I was able to make it work.

I am having some problems but I am going to contact the writer to address these.

Cheers,
Alex

Alex,

Thanks for the update. If you use the BIRT pojo runtime just make sure
you have all the jars in the reportengine/lib directory available.
