I have a query with 80 or so result columns. Around 30 columns are listed in 'Available Column Bindings' but not all.

Why is this? I can edit the binding list and add items but it would be nice if it were done automagically

Columns should be automatically added. Can you try dragging your data
set to the report canvas and then look at the bindings. There may be a
limitation in the number it does, but I am not aware of it.
