Hi,

While materializing my developer workspace I'm getting the following error message:

ERROR [0002] : An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
ERROR [0002] : session context was:(profile=C:\develop\ws\cdo\_target,
phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect, operand=, action=).
ERROR [0002] : Artifact osgi.bundle,org.eclipse.ui.intro.universal,3.2.500.v20110510 is a folder but the repository
is an archive or remote location.
ERROR [0002] : Artifact osgi.bundle,org.eclipse.platform,3.7.0.v201106131736 is a folder but the repository is an
archive or remote location.
Errors and Warnings
TAG-ID 0002 = Query for org.eclipse.emf.cdo.releng:osgi.bundle, path: org.eclipse.emf.cdo.releng:osgi.bundle$4.1.0.qualifier

I have no clue what this is means. Is it something I can influence or a bug in p2 or a a amlformed repository?

A little strange that it seems to work in my Hudson build.

Cheers
/Eike

Is this reproducible in a new workspace or could it be caused by transfer errors or other inconsistencies in your TP?
I've never seen it so I don't know why it happens.

It happened in an existing WS with an empty TP. I always move my current TP to a tmp folder until I know that the new
one is 100% functiional.

Hi Thomas,

Meanwhile I could try with a completely fresh workspace and I 100% reproducibly run into the same problem.

I've tried a couple of other things, all without effect:

1) Set log level to DEBUG (no further output)
2) Copy the org.eclipse.ui.intro.universal plugin (folder) into the TP *before* I run import (seems to be deleted)
3) Checkout the org.eclipse.ui.intro.universal project from CVS *before* I run import (seems to be ignored)
4) Clear Buckminster caches, restart, try 10 times more
5) Googled for "Artifact is a folder but the repository is an archive or remote location" (some hits, but didn't help me)

Some observations:

- The problem only occurs when switching my RMAP from Indigo to Juno (mostly Platform and EMF affected)
- My Hudson build seems to have no issues with either RMAP version

I'm running out of ideas ;-(

Cheers

I also googled and saw some messages indicating that this could come from a broken IDE installation. Can you reproduce
this with a freshly installed IDE or does it just affect the one you're trying with?

I will try that.

I've tried to debug through the import process and I think I know now what's happening:

1) For reasons unknown to me p2 is first trying to install the plugin in question from the SimpleArtifactRepository
file:/C:/develop/bin/eclipse/
2) There it finds the installed (i.e. unzipped) plugin folder from my IDE installation and decides to use that
3) It zips that folder into a temp area and copies the resulting jar into the TP.
4) Somewhere in the copying process the manifest.mf signatures are checked against the content and BANG
5) It finds that some image files have been removed and fails (the error message is then lost somewhere up the stack)

And in fact (and shame on me) I do remember that I made a mistake soe weeks ago. I wanted to copy some icons into my
icon collection but accidentally moved them out of my IDE installation. Because a fresh installation is always a matter
of an hour and the bigger Juno switch was due soon I decided to leave the installation in this state. No other problems
before this TP issue.

So, yes, your suggestion seems to be correct. My host IDE is corrupt and I'm almost sure I can fix the issue with a
fresh Juno installation.

BUT: I really wonder why p2 is looking at my IDE at all. I definitely did not tell Buckminster to do so. I can only
assume that this is kind of an optimization (because p2 puts local repositories at the beginning of the search list).

Given that I sometimes have patched plugins in my IDE and that the resulting eror messages don't provide the least info
about this automatic optimization I would like to witch it off. Is that possible?

Cheers

Just a note: A fresh host installation indeed solved the problem ;-)

Buckminster will not look at your IDE during resolution, but when the resolution is complete, and it knows exactly what
version to choose for what bundle it will consult your IDE profile first to see if the artifact is already downloaded.

Hmm, no. Perhaps it should be, to cater for the "corrupt IDE" case. Can you please file a bugzilla for that?

see details below.
When the problem occours I re-create a brand new IDE, but somehow, sooner or later, the problem pops up again.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Is it possible that this problem has to do with the fact that at some point I switched to Java7 with this IDE?
Keeping away from Java7 and stay with Java6 seems to solve the problem.
Does this make any sense?

Yes, it makes some sense in that your use-case has not been tested with
respect to different JVM version. It would be very valuable if you could
provide a reproducible test attached to a bugzilla that could be used
for testing (and eventually verifying a fix for) the problem.

Hi Thomas,
unfortunately the problem showed in a complex project with dozens of plugins. Further, I did not found a way to reproduce it with a given sequence of steps.
It just popped up every once in a while.
The only hint I have is that I obtained the issue both with Windows and Linux, both 32 and 64 bit, and in Linux both with OpenJDK and Oracle JDK, but every time it seems related to having Java7 installed or used somehow (most commonly when preparing the IDE with Update sites).

I wonder whether this is somehow related to
